Description

I had this idea for a cel-shaded landscape of another planet somewhere between here and infinity.
(I kinda went filtery berserk on the last steps of the background. Might work on it some more.)
Yeah... I think it was creative insanity that sparked the following ideas, enjoy:

This is Ray-3.77: Blue World (discovered by Marion Ray in 2673 A.D.)

The particular solar system does not actually have a blue sun.
On Blue World it only appears that way because of an unmeasurable amount of microbiological bacteria and algae in the atmosphere that absorb most of the sunlights visible spectrum.
Those algae and bacteria, in a kind of universal symbiosis, span around the entire planet, partially even orbiting the planet in higher ozon layers.
(Attempts at identifying the algae and bacteria have been abandoned after their overall diversity was classified as "unmeasurable".)

All matter on Blue World is covered with these algae and bacteria. Stone and plants, as well as animal and sentient life. Resting on a surface, the algae form vein-like patterns fluorescing slightly in a light blue color, while the bacteria are brighter and dark red to red.

The planet is covered mostly by a stone-like mineral with very little actual plant activity like woods or fields.
However, the existing flora's average minimum and maximum heights exceed that of any other known planet's.
All plants on Blue World show a deep red coloring, though only few of them fluoresce.

The animal life consists of no more than a handful species. All of which inhabit a very secluded part of the planet's surface, minimizing their contact with one another. Due to this ecological abnormality, none of the species are carnivorous in nature, protective abilities almost non-existent.
All animals on Blue World show a deep blue coloring, making them hard to be spotted, none of them fluoresce.

There have been no reports of intelligent life on Ray-3.77: Blue World.

"It's a beautiful, yet depressing planet. The thing with the algae is fascinating if you imagine it, though. If you were to breathe on that planet, eat anything or simply walk around without a plex-suit, your entire metabolism and even your brain would over time be perfused by those microorganisms."
(Marion Ray, 2674 A.D., three months prior to his developing Blue World algae patterns on his left retina.)
